JetBlue adds higher ‘peak’ day pricing to checked bag policy; 2nd bag policy change this year

Applies to flights booked after March 22, 2024

JetBlue, one of the busiest airlines flying out of Boston’s Logan Airport, has quietly introduced a major change to its checked bag fee policy for the second time this year. The latest changes add a layer of dynamic pricing to the policy, with higher rates being charged on days identified by the airline as “peak-season.” Both the on- and off-peak prices are also impacted by the additional $10 charge announced in February for bags checked within 24 hours of a flight. JetBlue said the new pricing structure applies to bookings made on or after March 22.As a result of the two policy changes, fees for a passenger’s first checked bag on a domestic flight on a Blue, Blue Basic or Blue Extra ticket range from $35 to $50, according to JetBlue’s website. Prices for a second bag range from $50 to $70 and fees for a third checked bag range from $125 to $160. Overweight or oversized bags are also subject to additional fees. For transatlantic flights, at least one bag is still included in most ticket tiers. For Blue Basic passengers, however, fees for the first bag will now range from $60 to $70. JetBlue told CNN in a statement that higher wages and fuel costs have increased the cost of transporting passenger luggage. “While we don’t like increasing fees, we are making these adjustments to help get our company back to profitability and cover the increased costs,” the carrier told the network.JetBlue’s announced peak season schedule:April 11 through April 29, 2024June 20 through Sept. 3, 2024Nov. 21 through Dec. 2, 2024December 19, 2024, through Jan. 6, 2025Feb. 13, 2025, through Feb. 24, 2025April 3, 2025, through April 28, 2025
