King Charles is “frustrated” by the pace of his cancer recovery, a member of the royal family has revealed – a rare insight from within the palace about the king’s feelings about his illness.
“He’s frustrated that he can’t get on and do everything that he wants to be able to do,” said Peter Phillips, the king’s nephew and the eldest of the late Queen Elizabeth’s grandchildren.
The 75-year-old king was diagnosed with an unspecified cancer in February after undergoing surgery for an enlarged prostate the month before, the palace previously revealed, leaving him apparently impatient to get back to full duties as he recovers.
While he waits, he has been nudging his team of doctors about when he can return to work, according to Phillips.
“He is always pushing his staff and everybody — his doctors and nurses — to be able to say ‘Actually can I do this, can I do that?’” Phillips said during a Sky News Australia interview Sunday.
Earlier in March, King Charles was forced to attend the Commonwealth Day ceremony remotely by a pre-recorded video address, and though he is hoping to attend an Easter service in April it remains unconfirmed whether he will be able to join.
On Thursday, Queen Camilla said her husband was doing “very well” while greeting fans in Northern Ireland Thursday.

The cheery news about King Charles comes days after Britain learned Kate Middleton was undergoing preventative chemotherapy for cancer.
During a video statement Friday, the Princess of Wales explained that doctors discovered cancer while she was undergoing abdominal surgery back in January.
Middleton appeared noticeably gaunt in the video, and did not reveal what kind of cancer she had.
“As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment,” she said.
“But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be okay,” she added, referring to her and Prince William’s children.
The revelation put to rest wild conspiracies about Middleton’s health that were sparked after she vanished from the public eye without explanation for months, and then released a heavily doctored photo the royal family claimed had been taken recently.
